We’re proud to announced that Big Bear Bikes has won a major national industry award which recognises the best in local, independent businesses.
We have been named the first recipient of the Local Bike Shop Week Award, which champions the in-store, in-person experience over online cycle shopping.
The result was decided by public vote, with Big Bear Bikes securing an incredible 42% against seven other retailers.
This marks a huge milestone in our growth from a small local store established in 2008 into a 5,000 sq ft showroom employing 25 local staff and attracting cyclists from across North Yorkshire and beyond.
Founder and Managing Director David Beeley said: “Big Bear Bikes is thrilled to win the Local Bike Shop Week Award.
“I’d like to say a big thank you to all the team at BBB and our satellite shop, Dalby Forest Cycle Hub, and especially to all our customers for their support.”

Big Bear Bikes plays an active role in supporting the local economy, employing a team of 25 staff and helping to sustain Pickering’s strong independent retail offer.
Our links with our sister store Dalby Forest Cycle Hub and the surrounding trail network also contribute to the wider Yorkshire tourism economy, attracting visiting cyclists who bring additional footfall to local shops, cafés and accommodation providers.
The Big Bear Bikes team is made up of keen cyclists with expertise across different disciplines, from road cycling to mountain biking. We also have a strong focus on after-sales support, offering servicing, adjustments and advice to all customers.
Our showroom features around 150 bikes, with a workshop, bike fit studio and parts department all under one roof, alongside leading brands including Trek, Santa Cruz, Orbea, Raleigh, Marin, Haibike and Frog.
Community involvement is also central, with cycling courses delivered through Dalby Forest Cycle Hub, support for local schools and athletes, and backing for charities including Ryedale Special Families, Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue, and Help for Heroes.
Local Bike Shop Week is organised by the Association of Cycle Traders and has been running in the UK since 2018.
