Take part in The Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Challenge 2022

We’re encouraging riders of all ages and abilities to join in the fantastic Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Challenge, which will be running this year for the 11th time. Big Bear Bikes will once again be supporting this two-day cycling event which has raised a total of £250,000 for Ryedale Special Families (RSF) since its inception. The 2022 event will be the first time the challenge has taken place in person since 2019, with 2020 called off and 2021 taking place virtually, so we’re aiming to help make this a triumphant return with record numbers of people taking part.

Challenge

The fun but challenging 144-mile ride takes a scenic route along the quiet lanes of the best kept secret in God’s own country, the Yorkshire Wolds. The ride will take place over Saturday and Sunday 2 and 3 July, covering approximately 72 miles each day. It’s a very social and supportive event and a brilliant opportunity to spend two days in the saddle with friends while raising much-needed funds for a very worthwhile cause. The organisers also provide refreshment points, ‘Guardian Angel’ support cyclists, mechanical support and first aid to help ensure everyone can safely complete the ride.

Route

The challenge starts and finishes at Norton College, near Malton, and will follow its route anti-clockwise this year. Entry costs £60 plus a commitment to raise £70 to help RSF provide care and support for more than 450 families whose children are disabled or have additional needs.

The fun and social overnight camp is located on-route at the Hutton Cranswick Sports and Recreation Centre, and includes a barbecue, Wold Top real ale, live music and a secure bike park. Luggage transfer from the halfway camp and back is available.

Who's it for?

This challenge is aimed at riders of all ages and abilities. We’re hoping that as many Big Bear Bikes customers as possible will join in as more riders means more money for RSF.

What is the cause?

Ryedale Special Families is a charity that opens up the world for a lot of young people by providing support to families with additional needs, disabilities or illness. Their work includes providing respite care, social groups, advice and family activities.

The charity is currently looking to raise money for a new purpose-built home in Pickering which will be more accessible to the community and can offer improved facilities and provide even greater support.
