Trek Slash 9.8 XT: A Perfect 10/10 On MBR!

“Get on the gas and it responds with a sense of urgency that’s usually reserved for shorter travel bikes. Land deep of a drop or jump, however, and the rear suspension graces you with a featherlight landing” (MBR).

The Trek Slash 9.8 XT has scored a perfect 10 out of 10 rating by Mountain Bike Rider.

Already the benchmark for enduro racing after picking up “enduro bike of the year” in 2021, the Trek Slash has built a reputation for being the one bike quiver; a serial podium winner at the biggest races yet just as “at home” ripping up your local trails with friends.

At Big Bear Bikes, the Slash is a firm favourite with Alex and Alistair both choosing the Slash as their weapon of choice for weekend adventures taking on the gnarliest trails they can find. To add to that, our supported rider Mat Wright has just taken delivery of his stunning new Trek Slash 8 in Miami Green – a bike he hopes to podium this season and take to the Enduro World Series as he did in 2021, and… well you start to see the picture. This is a serious bike for serious riders.

With progressive geometry and high spec components, the Slash is the most capable bike in Treks enduro line. We call it monster truck meets magic carpet; a bike that inspires confidence.

It is fast and efficient, built around a super stiff carbon frame and carbon wheels.

The ‘29er’ comes with the RockShox Super Deluxe Ultimate suspension which features Trek’s Thru Shaft damper that controls the 160mm rear travel superbly and really lets you dial in the feel. The Slash 9.8 is also built with a new RockShox ZEB fork and extra beefy stanchions. This incredible suspension rig gives you great grip over bone-rattling territory, making this bike a beast. And the best part is, the faster you go, the better it rides.

Bobby Boyd, from our team at Big Bear Bikes and Dalby Forest Cycle Hub, said:

“The Slash can handle anything and is perfect for attacking the most technical lines at Dalby Forest and anywhere else you want to go. A few of us at BBB tested out the Slash when it was released and it gives you the confidence to ride hard into corners, fly off big jumps and just take on whatever comes up.

Whichever of the Trek Slash range you go for you get great components for your money, a good level of slack for descending, and a really sleek looking bike – we love it!”

MBR said: “The 29in wheels certainly truck over rough terrain with the best of them” and that its “tight, reactive ride belies its generous travel. This bike simply motors.”
