A fantastic weekend of road and mountain bike racing is fast approaching – and there’s still time for kids and adults to get involved. Scarborough Cycling Festival, sponsored by Big Bear Bikes, takes place on the weekend of June 17 and 18, with the racing based on closed roads on Oliver’s Mount.
The event promises to be a brilliant celebration of cycling, whether you’re taking part, watching family or friends compete or simply enjoying some excellent racing. The flagship event for the weekend is round six of the British Cycling National Youth Circuit Series and there are men’s road races too.
Entry for the men's road race is open until 11.55pm on June 10. Find out more and enter here.
Entry for the Crank It MTB Eliminator on June 17 is open until 11.55pm on June 10. This includes a skills challenge for under-16s and eliminator races for under-12s, under-16s and adults.
The eliminator race format sees four riders sprinting round the exciting course in a series of heats, with the two slower riders eliminated each time before the final pits the best of the bunch against each other to find the winner.
Find out more about the Crank It MTB Eliminator on the British Cycling page here.
The open hill climb run by Scarborough Paragon Cycling Club is entry on the day and is open to all ages. This is a short but challenging timed climb. Entrants must be signed up by 11am
The races and events will take place as follows:
Saturday, June 17
Sunday, June 18
The weekend promises a brilliant festival atmosphere, with some 300 riders and approaching 1,000 people on site. Camping and parking are available from Friday to Sunday, with food, drink and toilet facilities on site. Prices are cheaper if booked in advance but it is possible to turn up and pay on the day
Camping and parking can also be booked on the British Cycling website here. On both days, anyone wishing to access the racing and camping areas must be on site by 8.15am because of the road closure, which is lifted between 12.30pm and 1.30pm and then again at 6.30pm on both days.
