David Beeley

Managing Director

Our managing director and founder first launched Big Bear Bikes in January 2009. Starting with 2 small rooms in the local antiques centre and slowly expanding, adding room by room, before moving to our current building in 2018. Shortly after he also opened our sister store Dalby Forest Cycle Hub.

David loves anything on 2 wheels and enjoys getting out on the road on his Emonda SL6, or hitting trails on his Rail 7. If he's not riding a pedal bike you'll find him on his motorbike instead, which he hopes will one day be a Triumph Rocket 3.

If not on a bike, you'll likely catch David walking his 3 English pointers or enjoying his favourite lamb roast in the local Brandy Snap Bistro, washing it down with a pint of Wold Top Bitter.

SALES

Oliver, aka Olly, hails from the North Yorkshire, where his love for two wheels began on the BMX tracks in Pickering.  Now our Sales Manager, he's always smiling, hungry for adventure, and is the go-to guy for anything trail and cross country.

You will often catch him on his Trek Top Fuel 8 or Trek Emonda SL5, and he is always equipped with lots of gadgets, including his trusty Garmin.

When not riding, you'll find him cooking up a storm in the kitchen or fishing with his kids.  If Olly's life was a movie, Jim Carrey would play him.

Introducing Mike, our Senior Sales Assistant, whose enthusiasm and cheekiness light up the shop floor.

Mike is a dedicated triathlete, having even competed in the European Champs Triathlon in France. With a penchant for Rapha gear, you'll rarely catch him without it.

When he's not busy chasing podiums, he's likely to be found quoting his favorite movies, "Point Break" or "Nacho Libre."  And when it comes to food, Mike's go-to dish is a tasty aubergine parmigiana, complemented by a nice cup of Earl Grey tea.

Meet Alistair, affectionately known as Al, is our Ops Manager with an insatiable taste for adventure.  After spending time living in Canada, he now calls Pickering home.

A true mountain biking enthusiast, he swears by his trusty Fuel EXE and wouldn't dream of hitting the trails without his Burgtec grips.

Al's weekends are jam-packed with events like the Boltby Bash and Ard Rock, but if you ask him about his dream car, he'll tell you it's an Audi RS6.  His drink of choice is Yorkshire Tea, obviously.

Meet Rich, originally from Norton-on-Derwent, but he enjoyed a stint of London living. Rich joined the Big Bear Bikes team in early 2024, he loves cruising on his Cannondale SuperSix EVO. A true roadie, he's all about that Rapha kit.

Fun fact- Rich proudly holds a Blue Peter badge for creating cartoons promoting energy-saving lightbulbs.

When he's not in the shop, you'll catch Rich indulging in the classic film "True Romance" and tucking into his favourite dessert, tiramisu, paired perfectly with a sip of whiskey or a negroni cocktail.

WORKSHOP

Meet Harry, our Mechanic from Scarborough. He has been with us for two years now, he started as an apprentice and quickly became the go-to guy for bike fixes.

His dream ride is the Trek Fuel EX 9.9 XX AXS.  You'll spot him on the trails, tearing up on his Airdrop Filter, clad in a Endura MT500 jacket.

When not tinkering with bikes or cars, he's diving into "No Country for Old Men" or enjoying a plate of carbonara.  Harry ensures every bike leaving our workshop is adventure-ready.

Let's introduce Mark, our Mechanic affectionately known as Tommo, from Moorsholme. He's been tinkering with bikes since the age of 11 and joined the Big Bear Bikes crew in October 2023.

Mark's riding style spans gravel, cyclocross, and everything in between, with his trusty Procaliber, Domane, and vintage Trek 5200. When he's not turning wrenches, Mark's conquering challenges like those featured in Track Day Cyclist Magazine or getting the miles in at the Brownlee Centre.

Off the bike, he's all about cross country, running, motorbikes, and even triathlons. Mark loves nothing more than a good Nepalese curry with a side of momo.
