Whitby

Scarborough

If exploring the coast is your thing, head across the moors to Whitby, a bustling town full of character which is famous for its links to Captain James Cook and its gothic abbey. There’s also the hugely popular major resort of Scarborough and mile upon mile of golden sands and surfer-friendly waves, not to mention one of the UK’s best theme parks, Flamingo Land. All of this is in easy reach of Big Bear Bikes.

Why visit Pickering?

Pickering itself is a thriving historic market town which is known as the gateway to the North York Moors National Park. As well as being the ideal base for a huge variety of attractions and activities, it’s also a wonderful place to explore in its own right.

Pickering is home to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, the UK’s busiest heritage steam railway, which meanders through beautiful moorland on its way to Whitby and carries more than 350,000 passengers a year. Now a ruin, Pickering Castle was established in the 11th century by the Normans under William the Conqueror and was used by a succession of mediaeval kings as a hunting lodge, holiday home and stud farm.

St Peter and St Paul’s Church is renowned for its beautiful frescoes, with visitors making a pilgrimage to see them from all over the world. There’s also Beck Isle Museum of Rural Life, a social history museum which allows visitors to step back in time and enjoy exploring what life was like in Pickering in days gone by.

Ideal for cyclists

We know from experience that many motorhome owners are cyclists too - and that’s another great reason to make Big Bear Bikes the location for your motorhome stopover. While you’re staying with us, you can explore our large showroom with over 300 bikes in stock as well as picking up any accessories or upgrades you need. Let our workshop team make repairs or give your ride a thorough service to put it in perfect condition for your planned adventures.

Heading out from Big Bear Bikes, you can explore nearby towns and villages using the quiet country roads and lanes or head over to nearby Malton on the recently established cycle route. Mountain bikers will love the green, blue, red and black trails that Dalby Forest has to offer and, if you prefer cross country riding, head to the network of routes that covers the North York Moors.

Great value short stay and overnight charges

We charge £5 for a short stay during the day for a rest or while you grab some lunch. An overnight stay is only £12, which compares very favourably with other similar sites in the area. Big Bear Bikes is in the centre of Pickering but in a discreet and quiet position, very close to a supermarket and only 100 yards from Pickering’s wonderful selection of shops, cafes, pubs and more.
