We are proud to announce that we are the 2022 bike store partner and sponsor of Team Boompods.
Team Boompods are an elite women's cycling team which was formed in 2017 and is the only UK-based team to be run solely by women for women. In 2022, they will have a squad of 10 riders, with their aim being to target the National Road Series and Tour Series, building on the success of 2021.
This is the first elite team sponsorship in our history and builds on our supported riders programme, where we help a number of athletes competing at the top level in road racing and mountain biking with equipment and maintenance. This includes Whitby-based Team Boompods rider Ellen McDermott, who we have supported for the past three years. The sponsorship is also an extension of our belief that cycling is for people of all ages and genders, and we hope that this will encourage more women and girls to take up cycling for fun.

Team Boompods Manager Hannah Farran said: “The ethos of Big Bear Bikes strongly aligns with our own belief that cycling is for everyone and the sport should be open to all.
“Big Bear Bikes have supported Ellen McDermott for the last two seasons and we are proud to be working with the team at Big Bear Bikes in 2022 with a special focus on bringing more women into the sport at a recreational level.”
David Beeley, Director of Big Bear Bikes and Dalby Forest Cycle Hub, said: “We are a local, independent cycle business with two stores and a strong belief that cycling is for everyone – that’s all ages, genders and levels of ability.
“This is demonstrated by our tuition courses where we teach children to ride and we create female friendly mountain biking spaces for women who prefer to learn in that environment.
“We have been supporting elite road racer Ellen McDermott and mountain bike enduro racer Sally Wright as part of our supported riders programme and are delighted to be taking our support a step further by sponsoring a team as ambitious and talented as Team Boompods.
“They are an elite women’s cycling team, but are also ambassadors for women who love cycling full stop! We can’t wait to see what they can achieve in 2022.”
