Mountain Bike Training Courses

Mountain Bike Training Courses

Take your riding skills to the next level this year with mountain bike courses at our sister store Dalby Forest Cycle Hub. Develop your competence with the basics of trail riding; level up from the blue to the red route; or learn how to get big air over drops and jumps.

All of these courses take place in Dalby Forest, a beautiful natural landscape and managed forest that’s home to mountain bike trails at all levels, as well as providing a stunning backdrop for learning new skills. All sessions start from either our store in Low Dalby or at Adderstone Field, which is a few miles further along the Dalby Forest Drive.

Riding your mountain bike is safer and more fun when you’ve nailed the technical skills and built your confidence in your own abilities. Our range of mountain biking courses help you do both. Find out more and enrol below.

Our cycling instructors

Every one of our trainers is a British Cycling-qualified instructor, so you can be assured they’re not only excellent at what they do but also fully accredited and safety checked. Let’s meet two of them…

Name: Mark Grange

Courses: Introduction to Mountain Biking, MTB Improvers, Ride the Red Route, private coaching sessions.

Mark is a highly experienced British Cycling coach, with additional qualifications in mountain biking leadership, and a coach educator for both British and Scottish Cycling. With Over 15 years’ experience of mountain bike coaching, he has been involved in the development of national and international coach education since the early 2000s. He also delivers our road leaders and mountain bike leader courses, plus off road coach development courses at Dalby Forest Cycle Hub. He has helped over 500 people improve their off-road skills.

Name: Martin Bernstein

Courses: Drops and Jumps and Enduro Skills.

Martin began riding bikes aged five, initially BMX racing and freestyle riding. Martin got his first mountain bike in the late 80s. He has competed in enduro and cross-country series but sessioning trails hard with friends was always the riding he enjoyed most.

He has competed in several different enduro and downhill events in recent years and still enjoys the odd skatepark session on either his dirt jump bike or BMX. Martin loves solving problems on steep and techy terrain.

Name: Karen Lederer

Courses: Women-only Introduction to Mountain Biking, Women-only Improvers, Ride the Red Route, private coaching sessions.

Karen has ridden bikes as long as she can remember so it felt like a natural transition for her to start sharing the fun of riding bikes with others. She loves big days out in the mountains with fast flowy single-track and steep techy descents to challenge herself. She thinks guiding and coaching is incredible because she gets to do even more of what she loves, and can help others build the skills and confidence to ride more too.

Experience levels

Our mountain biking courses are open to riders of all abilities. The fundamentals courses are aimed at beginners and we have sessions aimed at every step up in ability, all the way to the highly technical black routes. More advanced courses do have a minimum skills requirement and participants will need to take part in an assessment at the beginning of the session.

Equipment

Every course requires that participants wear a helmet and you will not be allowed to begin without one. Of course, you will need a bike that is appropriate to the course in question, with some more advanced courses requiring a full suspension bike. The hire fleet at Dalby Forest Cycle Hub provides high quality full suspension and hardtail Trek bikes.

If you don’t have your own bike or you’d like to try out one of our Trek Rail, Fuel EX or Roscoe hire bikes, we offer a 20% discount off the normal charge for course participants, but please book early to ensure a bike is available. Ring 01751 460585 and mention which course you’re booked on. Find out more on the Dalby Forest Cycle Hub website

If you're considering investing in a new bike, browse our range of bikes online and then visit us in store to talk to our friendly, expert team about which bike could be right for your style of riding.
