Trek Allant+: The Commuter And Adventurer E-bike With Power, Comfort And Range

Trek Allant+ is one of our most popular e-hybrid bikes. It’s one of those machines that just quietly gets on with the job without making a big deal of it or boasting about its superb power and range. With a new version of our favourite model – the Allant+ 5 – recently released, let’s take a look at this reliable workhorse in more detail.

Who is Trek Allant+ for?

Trek Allant+ is a versatile electric bike that’s built for riders, commuters and weekend adventurers who want a powerful, comfortable ride at an affordable price. It’s designed to provide a smooth ride on any urban street or light trail. We find the people who go for an Allant+ are “range seekers” – people who want a battery that’ll help them cover lots of miles – or have “range anxiety” – those who worry about running out of charge when they’re miles from home.

Trek Allant+ at a glance

The entire range of newer models is powered by the reliable Bosch Performance Line CX motor which provides 85Nm of torque and helps you sustain speeds of up to 15.5mph. If you’re not familiar with e-bikes, it’s worth knowing that this is the same motor that powers Trek Rail, a real monster truck of a mountain bike, so you can be assured it has ample assist for commuting and exploring. Allant+ is the bike you need if you’re visiting the pub deep in the North York Moors or you’re having a picnic on the beach at Robin Hood’s Bay; there’s all the power you need to zip back up that hill.

Allant+ comes with a suspension front fork and sturdy tyres that are both great for soaking up bumps. The bike’s geometry – the shape and angles of the frame - gives riders an active riding position without sacrificing comfort, so it’s ideal for all day exploring.

All models come with some great practical touches. There’s the rear rack for stowing your work bag or picnic, mudguards, front and rear lights and kickstand, all as standard. Allant+ also comes in a range of frame designs, including the lowstep, the standard crossbar and the “stagger”, which is halfway between the other two.

The current range runs from the Allant+ 5 at £2,925 to the Allant+ 9 at £5,000. We’ll look at the entry level model in more detail as we think it’s a great pick and is highly popular with Big Bear Bikes customers.

Our team’s verdict

Our Sales Manager Olly said: “Trek Allant+ is one of our most popular e-bikes and in particular the Allant+ 5 is really popular with customers. It’s very much considered a commuter’s bike but what’s great is it’s also a very capable all-rounder, which can go on country lanes and light trails too.

“The external battery design on the Allant+ 5 keeps the weight of the frame down as the downtube hasn’t had to increase in size to accommodate the integrated battery so it’s a 20-21kg bike rather than a 24kg bike.

“The batteries in the range go from 400Wh to 725Wh so it’s great for people who are range seeking and want to avoid range anxiety, and the Bosch Performance Line CX motor has all the power you need to get back up that hill.

“Allant+ 5 is light, it’s powerful and it’s just an all-round brilliant e-hybrid bike.”
