Best Electric Hybrid Bikes For 2023 From Trek, Raleigh And Haibike

Calling all easy riders. If you’re looking for a comfortable bike that’s always ready to go, a hybrid model is a great choice. And if you’d like a machine that’ll help you to your destination or keep you going on a longer excursion, then an electric hybrid - or an “e-hybrid” - would be just perfect. Here’s our quick guide to e-hybrids and seven great models in stock right now at Big Bear Bikes in Pickering.

Big Bear Bikes always has at least 25 e-hybrids on display and all are available for test riding, so you can try different sizes and models.

What is an e-hybrid bike?

First off, a hybrid bike is essentially halfway between a road bike and a mountain bike. They’re great for everything from urban and commuter riding to recreation, fitness and heading out on adventures.

Hybrids have flat handlebars where the gears and brakes are located and medium-sized tyres which soak up smaller bumps with enough tread to offer good grip but not so much that it slows you down on smooth surfaces. They have an upright riding position and a softer, broader saddle that keeps you comfortable during longer rides and may well come with practical touches like a rear rack, lights and mudguards to keep you and your bike clean. Some models are equipped with an in-built lock.

An e-hybrid is simply a hybrid bike with electric power assist provided by a motor and battery. UK law dictates that e-bikes can only provide assistance up to 15.5mph - that’s not to say you can’t go faster than that but if you do it has to be because your own legs or gravity are doing the work. Larger e-bike batteries can provide assist for more than 80 miles, depending on the terrain and which power settings you’re using, so all-day exploring is yours for the taking.
