Why join in the Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Challenge?

This is your chance to join with more than 100 fellow cyclists on a 144-mile journey through the picturesque Yorkshire Wolds, one of the hidden gems of God’s own country. Spanning across Saturday and Sunday June 29th and 30th, each day covers approximately 72 miles of stunning landscapes.

It's not just a ride; it's a chance to connect with fellow cyclists and support a great cause. With refreshment points, 'Guardian Angel' support cyclists, mechanical help and first aid at hand, this event is designed to be fun and social, while also enabling participants to feel they have really achieved something. Everyone who finishes will receive a completion certificate and a goodie bag, and those who raise more than £350 in sponsorship will receive a special golden T-shirt.

What is the Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Challenge route?

Starting and concluding at Norton College near Malton, this year’s route takes a scenic anti-clockwise path. Heading south to Pocklington and to Beverley, the route turns north-east toward the overnight camp at Hutton Cranswick. Then it's on to Driffield and then to Bridlington. After a visit to stunning Bempton Cliffs, the challenge heads north-west to Hunmanby and then meanders roughly west through beautiful wolds villages like Weaverthorpe, Sledmere and Kirby Grindalythe.

New for 2024! We’re e-bike friendly

Don’t worry if you ride an e-bike. You’re very welcome to join in the Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Challenge. We've strategically positioned charging points along the 144-mile path, with an overnight charging station at the camp, and charging points at the refreshment stops at the 25 and 50-mile points on both day one and day two.

The overnight experience

The camp at Hutton Cranswick Sports and Recreation Centre is a real highlight of the event. You’ll enjoy a barbecue, real ale from Wold Top brewery, live music and secure bike parking. Luggage transfer services ensure a hassle-free journey.

There’s a genuine spirit of community at the overnight camp and you’re bound to strike up conversations with fellow participants. Sharing your favourite parts of the day’s riding and chatting about cycling are all part of the fun.

Who can join in?

This challenge welcomes riders of all ages and abilities. You’ll obviously need to be able to cover the distances in question so a certain amount of regular cycling or training is required.

We’re inviting our Big Bear Bikes community to pedal alongside us, as more people taking part means more money raised for Ryedale Special Families.

How to enter

Entry requires a fee of £65, plus a commitment to raise £75 which will go towards helping Ryedale Special Families to support families who really benefit from the help provided. To learn more about the event, visit the Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Challenge website.
